To discourage editing of an Excel workbook, you can mark it as final. This feature does not prevent editing, but indicates that the workbook is to be considered complete. Users can still make changes if they choose to proceed.

Steps to Mark as Final

Open the Excel workbook you want to mark as final. Locate the 'File' tab on the ribbon and click to access the backstage view. Select 'Info' from the menu on the left. Look for the 'Protect Workbook' option and click on it to reveal a dropdown menu. Choose 'Mark as Final' from the list.

Excel will display a message indicating the workbook will be marked as final and saved. Confirm by clicking 'OK'. The Marked as Final icon will now appear in the status bar, signalling that the workbook is final.
